Join Danecourt School as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)!
From supporting to leading — a hands-on role where you’ll help every child thrive.
Hours: 37 per week (8:30–4:30 Mon–Thurs, 8:30–4:00 Fri)
Contract: Permanent, term time only (39 weeks)
Salary: Grade C2 (Point 12–25) £23,373–£30,411 (actual) + £1,539 SEN Allowance
About the Role
As an HLTA, you’ll help deliver exceptional learning experiences, working closely with teachers and class teams to:
1. Lead learning for individuals, groups or whole classes under teacher guidance.
2. Support planning and delivery of engaging, personalised lessons.
3. Monitor progress and help pupils reach their potential.
4. Take the lead in the teacher’s absence or during PPA cover.
5. Work with therapists, the SENDCo and families to embed tailored strategies.
6. Champion inclusion, emotional regulation and pupil voice throughout the school day.
HLTA status is desirable but not essential — what matters most is your leadership skills, passion for supporting SEND pupils, and commitment to helping them succeed.
Who You Are
We’re looking for someone who is:
7. Passionate about helping children learn and thrive.
8. Qualified as an HLTA (or equivalent Level 4 experience) or eager to progress.
9. Experienced in delivering lessons, ideally in a SEND or inclusive setting.
10. Confident supporting pupils with complex needs, including communication and sensory differences.
11. Skilled in targeted interventions, especially literacy, numeracy, and communication.
12. A strong communicator who builds positive relationships with pupils, colleagues and families.
13. Organised, proactive, and committed to inclusion and accessibility.
What We Offer
At Danecourt, support staff are valued as key members of the team. As part of the Maritime Academy Trust, you’ll benefit from:
14. A supportive, collaborative team culture.
15. Clear pathways for progression, including routes from HLTA to teacher.
16. Weekly CPD and regular training to build skills and confidence.
17. Access to specialist facilities including sensory rooms, therapy spaces and outdoor learning.
18. Involvement in innovation, including Maritime’s Outreach Support Service.
19. A strong sense of purpose where your work directly impacts pupil wellbeing and progress.
Danecourt is proud to be the winner of the Medway Parents and Carers Forum SEND Award (Primary Special School Provision).
