Job Summary

We are an elective orthopaedic department with four theatres and are expanding to a fifth theatre. In March 2023, the CSTM theatres received the Gold Star award for Accreditation for Care & Excellence and the Trust has a CQC rating of ‘good’ with outstanding features. We aim to achieve university hospital status after attaining teaching hospital status in 2019. We are recruiting a highly motivated and enthusiastic Band 5 Theatre Scrub Practitioner (RGN/ODP) to join the Captain Sir Tom Moore Theatre elective service. Candidates must hold relevant NMC or HCPC registration.


Main Duties

* Provide high standard patient care with excellent communication and teamwork skills.
* Support teaching and development for students and colleagues.
* Participate in a fully supported preceptorship and core competency programme led by the Perioperative Practice Education team.
* Engage in CPD activities including in-house and university-based training such as Scrub Circulating Course, Advanced Life Support, and regular CPD reviews.


About Us

Captain Sir Tom Moore Building (Halton site) houses four laminar flow theatres performing orthopaedic surgery, sports injury, joint revision, ambulatory trauma and general surgery. Warrington Hospital (acute site) offers eight theatres with a wide selection of specialties including gynaecology, obstetrics, general surgery, urology, breast surgery, ENT, dental, colorectal, ophthalmic, trauma & orthopaedics, and paediatrics, with a 24‑hour trauma, obstetric and emergency service. The Nightingale Building (Halton site) is part of our elective general surgery trust with two theatres for elective and chronic pain services.

Job Description

You will have opportunities to work across sites, including the Nightingale Building (Halton Hospital Site) and Warrington Hospital to support Children’s Surgery and patients requiring enhanced clinical support. Contracted full‑time hours for the CSTM department are Monday‑Friday: 3 shifts 08:00‑17:30 and 1 shift 08:00‑19:00. Currently working Monday‑Friday with potential for future weekend working. Please review the attached person specification for further information.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Competencies
* Comprehensive applied anatomy and physiology for the relevant clinical area.
* Evidence‑based practice supporting patient care.
* Knowledge of legal requirements for patients and staff.
* Knowledge of Clinical Governance Agenda.
* Effective written, verbal and non‑verbal communication.
* Effective organisational skills including time management and prioritisation.
* Willingness to learn and professional development.
* Ability to work across the directorate and sister sites, meeting patient and organisational requirements.
Desirable
* Evidence of clinical supervision.
* Knowledge of surgical procedures.
* Experience managing a theatre/department.
Experience
* Recent experience in acute care settings.
* Evidence of providing clinical supervision.
* Evidence of workload prioritisation and task delegation.
Desirable Experience
* 12 months experience at Band 5 in related specialty.
Qualifications
* NMC Register (RN Adult) or HCPC as an ODP.
* Evidence of ability to teach in practice.
* Recognised nursing or operating department practice qualification.
