Role title: Principal Investment Consultant
TPR grade & pay group: Advisory Grade 6

The role and responsibilities
Are you an experienced investment and financial modelling professional with a passion for insight-driven decision-making? We're looking for a dynamic individual to join our Pensions Insights and Modelling (PIM) team and provide expert investment and modelling advice to support The Pensions Regulator (TPR) in achieving its strategic objectives across the occupational pension scheme landscape.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in enhancing the team's modelling capabilities and in turn shaping regulatory approaches and supporting policy development, influencing decisions affecting billions in pension assets. The role demands a deep understanding of both DB and DC pension schemes, investment strategy, and the broader economic and regulatory environment.
The candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality, independent advice on investment risks, modelling assumptions, and strategic pension issues. They will contribute to the development of house views, support training and knowledge-sharing across the team, and ensure that modelling outputs are robust, credible, and aligned with regulatory objectives. This is a role requiring strong analytical skills, excellent communication, and the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
The role criteria
* Investment expertise backed by a professional qualification: Strong knowledge of UK workplace pension fund investments (DB and DC), including asset classes, strategy-setting, ESG, climate change, and fiduciary management. Ideally a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (or equivalent experience).
* Regulatory knowledge: In-depth understanding of UK pensions legislation, The Pensions Regulator's codes and guidance, and the broader legal and regulatory framework.
* Analytical and strategic thinking: Ability to apply professional judgement to complex investment scenarios, including modelling, policy development, and risk assessment.
* Communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to present complex investment matters clearly to varied audiences.
* Stakeholder engagement: Experience in advising and influencing trustees, employers, and internal teams, including presenting at meetings and providing training.
* Technical proficiency: Working knowledge of Excel and proficiency in standard office tools (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
