Packaging Engineer role at T&L SUGARS LIMITED

Overview
Reporting to the Sr Corporate Packaging Engineer, the successful candidate will support the Corporate EU Packaging network and learn about and gain broad experience of Packaging operations within our EU business. The role offers exposure to new lines at our London sites, and involves working on a variety of equipment across different products and packaging. You will contribute to the execution and continuous improvement of packing operations processes and demonstrate clear value to the business by achieving key objectives.
Roles & Responsibilities
* Work on optimization projects to provide continuous improvements in safety, hygiene, quality and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) performance on key packaging lines at both EU sites.
* Carry out hands‑on activities in both mechanical and electrical disciplines.
* Evaluate new product development (NPD) and packing equipment investment opportunities.
* Participate in equipment/line upgrades and installations, ensuring projects are delivered on time and to required specification.
* Develop projects to reduce packing over‑weights, material wastage and remelt.
* Work alongside the engineering team to ensure correct and relevant engineering documentation is available.
* Use SAP CMMS or equivalent system to administer changes and create new predictive maintenance plans.
* Apply knowledge and experience to avoid, anticipate and resolve engineering problems.
* Assist the maintenance team, ensuring maintenance activities are carried out efficiently.
* Apply root‑cause analysis techniques.
* Maintain high quality and safety standards at all times.
* Explore new technologies that can be brought into packaging operations.
* Be familiar with equipment such as multi‑head weighers, auger fillers, VFFs, case erectors, case packers, metal detectors and check weighers, ink‑jet printers, fluid fillers, bottle cappers, conveyors, palletisers, robotic palletisers, PET bottling lines, etc.
Work Experiences
* Experience of working in a manufacturing or production environment.
* Experience of predictive/preventative maintenance techniques and regimes.
* Mechanical bias.
* PLC systems within packaging equipment.
* Lead continuous improvement projects from start to finish.
* Ability to speak with and work with a range of stakeholders.
Education Requirements
* Preferably an HNC/NVQ 4 in an engineering discipline, at least a BTEC/ONC in a relevant discipline.
* City & Guilds apprenticeship training.
Location of Role
* Thames, London. Travel to other sites located at Leeds and Lisbon as required.
