The Role
As a Senior Project Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering complex engineering projects that sit at the heart of UK defence and submarine capability. This is an exciting opportunity to work within our Mission Systems business, supporting the Submarine Programme, the next generation of Royal Navy submarines planned to enter service in the late s. You’ll drive growth, influence strategy, and lead a small project team responsible for delivering critical end‑to‑end project outcomes. It’s a role that brings real purpose: contributing to national security while accelerating your own professional development in a dynamic, high‑profile environment.
Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:
1. Provide operational and strategic leadership to ensure successful delivery of project commitments.
2. Manage complex engineering projects, ensuring teams understand and meet requirements across cost, schedule, and quality.
3. Oversee full lifecycle delivery, including requirements capture, scoping, pricing, commercial solutions, and proposal development.
4. Drive effective risk management, minimising exposure and ensuring robust governance.
5. Apply structured change management to balance customer flexibility with sound commercial agreements
This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with days in the office and days working from home.
Essential experience of the Senior Project Manager
6. Significant experience in advanced project management within a relevant technical or engineering environment.
7. Proven leadership experience, motivating and directing multidisciplinary teams.
8. Demonstrated ability to manage projects with varied demands, stakeholders, and deadlines.
9. Strong financial management capability to maintain project profitability.
10. Experience delivering solutions through internal resource teams and external supply chains.
Qualifications for the Senior Project Manager
Essential:
11. APM PMQ or equivalent professional project management qualification.
Preferred:
12. Chartered status or equivalent accreditation.
