Specialist Physiotherapist – Stroke Early Supported Discharge Rehab
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Suffolk Stroke Early Supported Discharge Team for a Band 6 Specialist Physiotherapist to join our team in the east of the county. The role is 0.8 WTE (4 days a week) and permanent.
Role Overview
The specialist physiotherapist will work within a multidisciplinary early‑supported discharge team to provide high‑quality rehabilitation to patients following a stroke in their own homes and communities. The aim is to enable patients to achieve optimal independence and maximum rehabilitation potential while working autonomously and collaboratively across the Suffolk Stroke Pathway.
Responsibilities
* Provide specialist assessment, implementation and evaluation of evidence‑based treatment programs for stroke patients.
* Conduct therapy assessments and interventions in patients’ homes and community settings.
* Develop and outline rehabilitation care plans for Rehabilitation Assistants to supervise and carry out.
* Collaborate with allied health professionals within the interdisciplinary team.
* Supervise and support junior staff and students.
* Contribute to service development and data collection within Suffolk Integrated Stroke Services.
* Offer regular supervision and participate in structured training programmes for the development of specialist stroke rehabilitation skills.
* Travel across the county of Suffolk; official base is at Allington Clinic in Ipswich, with fixed working hours Monday‑Friday 09:00‑17:00 and a weekend rota every 5–6 weeks.
Qualifications
* Registered physiotherapist with HCPC.
* BSc/Diploma in Physiotherapy or MSc Physiotherapy.
* Evidence of post‑registration education or qualification.
* Evidence of attendance at specialist stroke courses.
Knowledge
* Knowledge and application of national guidelines for stroke and relevant standards and outcome measures.
* Competency in physical assessment and treatment of patients with stroke.
* Competency in assessing patients’ impairments – physical and cognitive – and formulating treatment plans and appropriate goals.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Experience of supervising staff and appraising qualified and unqualified staff.
Experience
* Post‑graduate experience working within neurology/stroke care.
* Experience supervising rehab assistants (or equivalent).
* Previous experience working with multi‑disciplinary teams.
* Member of a specialist interest group.
Skills
* Ability to make own travelling arrangements to meet service demands.
* Flexible working, including contribution to the weekend therapist rota.
* Good communication, organisational and time‑management skills.

Salary: £39,959 to £48,117 a year pro rata.
