Location: Bridgwater, Somerset – minimum 1 day a week on site

Our client, an EC&I engineering services firm in Bridgwater, require an experienced Electrical Designer to join their established team.
Candidates would need to have lived & worked in the UK for 5+ years and be eligible for BPSS security clearance.
The client is flexible in their approach to working patterns and remote working. You can either work on-site 1-2 days each week, or one full week per month for example.
What the role of the Electrical Designer entails:
Some of the main duties of the Electrical Designer will include:
Design Delivery
* Develop electrical and control designs including schematics, layout drawings, schedules, and associated design documentation under the direction of Senior and Lead Engineers.
* Produce high-quality EC&I design deliverables in line with project requirements, applicable standards and procedures.
* Apply sound engineering judgement to equipment selection and design decisions, ensuring designs are practical, compliant, and buildable
Technical Contribution
* Interpret project requirements and specifications, identifying gaps, assumptions, or issues and raising them appropriately.
* Resolve routine technical design issues within own area of competence, escalating where required and incorporating review comments accurately.
* Work closely with Project Managers, engineers, and production teams to ensure designs support programme, cost, and build objectives.
* Engage proactively with colleagues to understand how design decisions impact manufacture, installation, and commissioning.
What experience you need to be the successful Electrical Designer:
* Solid understanding of electrical and control design fundamentals, with experience
* developing EC&I designs and associated documentation using AutoCAD, EPLAN, or equivalent tools.
* Competent in specifying EC&I equipment for control panels and associated systems, particularly relay-based control applications.
* Able to interpret specifications and standards, recognising when additional requirements apply and when guidance or escalation to Senior or Lead Engineers is required.
* Working awareness of related EC&I topics such as functional safety, PLC-based systems, BS7671, instrumentation, and MCC/switchgear — sufficient to recognise their relevance and engage effectively with senior engineers.
* HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical, Control, or a related engineering discipline (degree advantageous but not essential).
* Typically 3+ years’ experience working in an EC&I design role within an engineering, industrial, or regulated environment.
* Experience producing electrical and control design deliverables as part of project teams.
* Experience in regulated industries such as Oil & Gas, energy, or manufacturing is advantageous; previous nuclear experience is not required and will be supported through training.
* Able to obtain security clearance for work in regulated and government environments.
