Bioinformatics Research Officer (OceanOmics Centre)

* Join a world-class marine genomics research centre transforming ocean conservation.

* Full-time appointment on a fixed term basis for 2 years.
* Base salary range: $80,243– $88,940p.a. plus 17% superannuation.

About the area

Minderoo OceanOmics Centre at UWA is a world-class research facility established through a collaboration between The University of Western Australia and Minderoo Foundation. Located in the Bayliss Building on UWA’s Crawley Campus, the Centre uses ground-breaking genomics-based research to characterise marine biodiversity. Focusing on Australia’s native marine vertebrates and regional marine ecosystems, we integrate advanced genomics infrastructure, specialist expertise, and strong collaborative networks to generate large-scale Environmental DNA (eDNA) and whole-genome sequencing datasets. Our work establishes a genomics-enabled foundation for biodiversity discovery, ecological understanding, informed conservation-management and the development of innovative biomonitoring solutions.

About the opportunity

* Support the development and implementation of bioinformatics tools and workflows for high-throughput genomic sequencing data.
* Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers and technical staff in a state-of-the-art facility.
* Contribute to impactful marine conservation research through data analysis, pipeline development, and scientific communication.

About you

* Tertiary qualification in science (e.g. genetics, genomics, molecular biology) or equivalent experience.
* Experience with bioinformatics tools, command-line systems, and programming languages (e.g. bash, Python, R).
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and ability to follow procedures.
* Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to work independently and in a team.
* Familiarity with data management practices, version control systems (e.g. Git), and online repositories (e.g. SRA, GenBank) is desirable.

* Ability to meet the physical requirements of the role.
* Some after-hours work and occasional travel may be required.
