Introduction to the Role
The Vanderlande Service Team is responsible for the maintenance and optimisation of automated warehouse solutions across our UK operations.
The UK Service team provides a wide range of services including 24/7 Helpdesk support, reactive and planned maintenance visits to customer sites, site-based Service teams, Project Management, Account Management and Process Engineering.
As a Process Engineer you will be based in our Birmingham office and within our customer sites. You will be part of the UK Service team, which serves a wide range of Warehouse customers in the UK & IRE.
You will be able to act at an operational, tactical and strategic level and be able to present solutions convincingly, take initiative, and make informed decisions. You will have strong analytical capabilities and communication skills that excel at building relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
You may also be required to travel and support / attend training internationally as part of the wider Process Engineering team within Vanderlande / Toyota Automated Logistics.
You will work closely with on‑site maintenance and operations teams to drive performance, identify improvements, support the development of business cases, and enhance system reliability across our logistics network.
Role Responsibilities
As a Process Engineer, you operate on an operational, tactical, and strategic level. You can present solutions convincingly, take initiative, and make informed decisions. You have strong communication skills and excel at building relationships with both internal teams and our customers.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Executing process optimisations along Lean Six Sigma methodologies related to our automated logistics solutions in use across warehousing sites.
* Analyse customer processes and data and the automation solution and translating insights into clear, actionable process improvements.
* Advising on and developing improvement proposals covering system performance, technical processes, and operational workflows.
* Performing root‑cause analysis for complex system errors, carrying out performance studies, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
* Active collaboration with global PE community analysing cross site performances, supporting identification of trends and subsequent development of solutions.
* Spending time on-site to identify system barriers, developing solutions and translating these into customer‑focused business cases.
* Supporting the implementation of improvements while building strong working relationships with service teams and clients.
* Enhancing tools, methods, and data capture techniques to strengthen performance analysis.
* Propose, create, and improve performance reporting and dashboarding on system and operational level to support continuous improvement of the production processes.
Experience, Qualifications and Skills
* Minimum Bachelors Degree in a relevant (technical) education program (E.g. Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering)
* Full UK Driving License, using own car for travel – business mileage reimbursed.
* A background in continuous improvement and process engineering, with demonstrated success in delivering process enhancements.
* Experience working directly with operations teams in a warehouse, logistics, or automation environment.
* Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.
* Excellent analytical skills, with a strong interest in databases and data analytics tools. Experience with tools and languages like Splunk, Python, PowerBI is a plus.
* Familiarity with CI/Lean methodologies. Lean Six Sigma experience is highly desirable.
