Contract: Part Time, 18.5 hours per week over a minimum of 4-5 days (with this being discussed at the interview stage)

This is a funded Fixed Term role until 31st December 2025, with the possibility of extension for up to 12 months, subject to future funding.

Closing Date: 24th September 2025

Interview Date: 3rd October 2025

Do you have lived experience of the challenges young people face around housing, mental health, or accessing support? Are you passionate about using that experience to help others thrive?

We're looking for a dedicated and empathetic Young Persons Temporary Accommodation Officer to join our team at whg, providing intensive housing-related support to young people to help them sustain their tenancy with whg. You will be working on an externally funded programme that whg is commissioned to deliver from Walsall Council.

You'll play a vital role in delivering the aims of our Social Justice Strategy – Transforming Lives, working closely with customers to improve tenancy sustainment, reduce the risk of homelessness, and support their journey to independence.

Job Responsibilities

You'll support young people to:

* Maintain their tenancies and develop life skills for independent living
* Understand their tenancy responsibilities and manage rent and household budgets
* Access education, training, employment, and volunteering opportunities
* Improve their emotional and physical wellbeing, connecting them with appropriate support services
* Build healthy relationships and reduce isolation through community engagement
* Develop personal resilience and confidence to make informed, positive life decisions
* Move on successfully into long-term, sustainable housing

You'll also be responsible for:

* Building strong, trusting relationships that empower young people
* Working collaboratively with internal teams and external agencies to ensure coordinated support
* Work collaboratively with Walsall Council Transition & Leaving Care Service
* Managing safeguarding concerns and risks effectively
* Accurately maintaining case notes and contributing to service development

We're looking for someone who has:

* Experience in delivering support to young people with challenging and complex needs.
* A non-judgmental approach to service delivery with the ability to forge effective working relationships with younger vulnerable customers.
* A genuine passion about achieving and sustaining service excellence for our customers.
* The ability to prioritise case load and busy schedules, with an organised and methodical approach to work.
* The ability to demonstrate high levels of personal initiative and deliver effective service solutions through creation and innovation.
* A good understanding of managing risk of harm.
* A good understanding of Health & Safety in housing support.
* Understanding and implementation of fairness, equality and diversity.
* The ability to build strong relationships and work well in a team.
* The ability to multi-task and work effectively under pressure, delivering against objectives.
* Lived experience of homelessness and/or living in care would be advantageous in this role.

What's in it for you?

In return, you will receive a competitive salary, 27 days annual leave pro rata (plus Christmas shut down), a defined benefit pension scheme, health cash plan, a range of shopping and leisure discounts.

We are output focused and flexible and believe in giving colleagues the right balance of autonomy and support to enable them to work to their full potential. Despite the high expectation for performance and delivery, we are committed to ensuring colleagues have a healthy work-life balance and able to work in agile ways which support them.
