Morson Talent are delighted to present an opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Civil Engineer (Tunnelling) to join our client's established team for work associated with a nationally significant energy infrastructure Project in Somerset.
Responsibilities
* The Civil Engineer (Tunnelling) will provide technical expertise to support and ensure the review, acceptance and technical delivery of design changes during construction of the marine works.
* Work closely with the Site Joint Design Office (JDO) Design Team and Construction team to maintain the technical quality of responses (content / consistency / exhaustiveness / accuracy) and construction safety.
* Draft programmes and action plans to deliver specific project / assignment objectives; demonstrate accuracy, tenacity, diplomacy and team orientation.
* Support the JDO in the handover of Design Packages released for construction and initiate delegated responsibilities through this process.
* Review and accept changes to the design raised by the site contractor; manage interfaces between construction contractors and designers (Request for Information, Field Change Request or Non-Conformance Report).
* Ensure all design and construction changes are delivered on time to meet construction needs.
* Attend readiness reviews of Design Packages released for construction as required by design owners.
* Manage CDM aspects relating to the design changes during the construction period, including discharging the role of Principal Designer.
* Work closely with Design teams, Contractor and Construction teams to maintain technical quality responses, construction programme and construction safety.
* Be responsible for the nuclear safety acceptance of the design by carrying out surveillance on the design changes during construction.
* Safety case/golden thread: ensure the high-level safety case and the design have a clear golden thread to support operations.
Criteria
Essential
* Strong knowledge of secondary lining to tunnels and shafts using reinforced concrete methods in the marine and tunnelling environment.
* Strong knowledge of pipe jacking and associated launch/termination structures.
* 3+ years of design experience of TBM, pipe jack and secondary lining tunnelling structures.
* Design process and design activities (preferably related to Nuclear Industry).
* Working knowledge of Concrete design codes (e.g. Eurocode 2).
* Design with hazard & accidental safety cases.
* Working within UK CDM regulations and in a highly regulated industry.
* Delivery-oriented and ability to set action plans and meet deadlines.
Desirable
* Knowledge of pipe jack construction methods and common defects and their repair methods.
* Knowledge of common defects to RC underground structures and their repair methods.
* Experience in the design of offshore structures.
* Experience working in a construction environment with clients, designers and contractors.
* Working knowledge of construction change procedures.
* Experience in large-scale, multi-cultural industrial projects with safety case architecture.
* Understanding and application of the Intelligent Customer Role.
* Health & Safety legislation including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements.
* Familiarity with safety case process and design substantiation.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
* Advanced degree in Civil or Structural engineering subject, civil or structural engineering.
Desirable
* Working towards / Chartered Engineer with either ICE or IStructE.
* Medium Risk Confined Space qualification.
* Tunnelling Safety Training Scheme (TSTS) qualification.
* PWR technology design, safety case or operation.
