Role Overview As our HSE Manager, you will champion environmental stewardship, regulatory compliance, and safety excellence. You’ll work closely with the site teams, project teams and client on the Reading site, implementing proactive HSE strategies with an environmental leadership lens, balancing safety, sustainability, and operational needs. Key Responsibilities Environmental Leadership & Compliance Lead and continuously enhance the site’s Environmental Management System (EMS), aligning with ISO 14001 and integrating Best Available Techniques. Manage environmental permits, waste handling, emissions, spill prevention, and site remediation protocols. Drive pollution prevention, resource conservation, waste minimisation, and sustainability initiatives, innovating for lower environmental impact. Liaise with environmental regulators (e.g., EA), preparing for inspections and audits. Health & Safety Integration Develop, update, and oversee site-wide HSE policies, procedures, and risk assessments (e.g., COSHH, DSEAR, manual handling). Oversee incident investigations, root cause analyses, corrective actions, and reporting under RIDDOR. Deliver training and awareness programs, embed Life-Saving Rules, and support site behavioural safety culture. Conduct workplace inspections, audit processes, and support ISO 45001 and ISO 9001 compliance where applicable. Person Specification Essential Qualifications & Experience BSc, MSc or NEBOSH Diploma’s covering all 3 aspects of health, Safety & Environmental management (separate qualifications accepted) IOSH membership Strong background in environmental management within industrial, demolition, or remediation contexts. Proven track record with EMS (e.g., ISO 14001), environmental permitting, waste/emission control, and pollution prevention. Solid knowledge of UK environmental legislation, HSE regulations, and ability to implement compliance frameworks. Desirable Traits Experience in process/environmental risk assessments on complex sites. Change management skills, able to influence site safety culture and environmental behaviour. Auditor or certification experience (ISO, environmental compliance) is a bonus.
