£21,355 per annum

Cambridge

Are you motivated by the idea of helping young adults break down barriers to learning and build a successful career in the trades?

Do you have the versatility to provide high-quality support in both a traditional classroom and a hands-on, practical workshop setting?

Are you ready to join a specialist team in Cambridge dedicated to fostering independence for students with diverse learning needs?

If you are a proactive mentor with a passion for vocational education, we want to hear from you!

A unique permanent opportunity has arisen for a Learning Support Mentor to join a premier educational provider in Cambridge. Working exclusively within the Construction department, you will be the vital link that helps students with Autism (ASC), physical disabilities, and sensory impairments navigate their technical studies. Your goal is to ensure every learner gains the confidence, metacognitive skills, and practical support needed to master their craft and achieve their qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

* Vocational Coaching: Support students in real-world workshop environments and classrooms, working in tandem with construction lecturers and assessors.
* Goal Orientation: Assist learners in meeting the specific targets and outcomes outlined in their Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
* Technical Adaptation: Modify complex instructional materials and technical language to ensure students can fully grasp the construction curriculum.
* Practical Learning Aids: Provide essential support through note-taking, reading out technical manuals, and assisting with word processing or enabling technologies.
* Full-Spectrum Support: Supervise students during break times and off-site industry visits, ensuring a safe and inclusive experience across the college campus.
* Progress Tracking: Maintain detailed and accurate records of student engagement and achievement through the college's Pro-monitor system.

Requirements

* Background: Proven experience supporting young people with learning difficulties or disabilities (SEN).
* Core Skills: Strong literacy and numeracy to help students decode technical terminology and construction theory.
* Multidisciplinary Teamwork: Excellent communication skills to collaborate with staff, therapists, and families.
* Inclusion Mindset: A genuine commitment to promoting student autonomy and championing the right to an accessible education.
* Adaptability: Comfort working in a busy construction environment where health and safety and practical tasks are a priority.
* Compliance: An Enhanced Child & Adult DBS check (or willingness to apply for one).

What We Offer

* Stable Income: £21,355 per annum (Permanent, actual salary for term-time).
* Work-Life Balance: 37 hours per week, Term Time Only (38 weeks), perfect for those who value their holidays.
* Pension: Enrollment in the Local Government Pension Scheme.
* Specialist Training: Access to comprehensive development tailored to supporting students in vocational sectors.
* Career Impact: The satisfaction of helping students build the literal and metaphorical foundations of their future.
* £300 Refer A Friend reward scheme.
