What it's like to work here
Our gardens are heritage sites and host Europe's most extensive plant collections. Our gardeners are responsible for conserving and developing these collections and gardens, attracting increasing visitors. You'll be part of a professional team caring for these cherished gardens.
Training combines mandatory 5-day college blocks and online learning, with all expenses and travel paid. Opportunities include travel to other National Trust locations, sometimes with overnight stays, and participating in industry training events.
Knightshayes Court in Tiverton, Devon, features formal gardens and extensive woodland, undergoing restoration. You'll be involved in weed management, composting, pruning, and garden restoration, including replanting. Regular plant identification, soil health, pest, disease, and disorder sessions will be part of your learning. This is a unique opportunity to learn and work in a special garden environment.
What you'll be doing
Working with your mentor, you'll develop skills aligned with the apprenticeship standard (Horticulture or Landscape Construction Operative Level 2). You'll attend review meetings, complete mandatory e-learning, courses, and training, and be responsible for your progression.
