Principal Design Engineer (Electrical)
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Senior / Principal Electrical Design Engineer to join a national building services consultancy. This is a permanent, full-time position working within an agile and flexible framework, based from a UK office with hybrid working available.
About the role This position sits within a collaborative team of mechanical, electrical and low-carbon engineers focused on delivering high-quality, sustainable building services design. As a national consultancy with a strong UK presence, the business delivers projects across a wide range of sectors including healthcare, education, residential, commercial, industrial, pharmaceutical, public sector and net-zero carbon developments.
The role offers a high level of autonomy, technical responsibility and client interaction, with clear progression opportunities for the right individual.
Key responsibilities
Acting as Project Lead on selected electrical building services projects
Working as part of a wider multi-disciplinary design team on larger schemes
Attending client and design team meetings, including delivering presentations
Providing technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers
Raising and promoting technical excellence within the electrical discipline
Developing long-term client relationships and acting as a key point of contact
Supporting repeat business through strong client care
Delivering technically challenging projects across multiple sectors
Involvement across all project stages from concept to completion
Producing and reviewing drawings, specifications and reports
Producing calculations or guiding others in their completion
Working closely with colleagues to achieve project and business objectives
Experience and qualifications
Degree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
Chartered or working towards chartership preferred
HNC / HND candidates with strong design experience also considered
Minimum 3 to 4 years post-qualification experience in building services design
Proficiency in design software including:
Microsoft Office
Relux or Dialux
Amtech
Revit
Strong knowledge of British and European Standards and Building Regulations
Knowledge of HTMs beneficial
Professional membership or working towards membership of CIBSE or IET
Good understanding of HV and LV systems
Experience integrating embedded generation and renewable technologies
Working knowledge of BREEAM
General understanding of mechanical systems to contribute effectively at meetings
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proactive attitude with a strong desire to learn and develop
