Overview
We are seeking a Buildings Manager to take responsibility for the care, maintenance, and smooth day-to-day running of our extensive school estate. Founded in 1629, our independent day and boarding school is set within 100 acres of historic grounds and buildings, providing a unique and inspiring environment for pupils and staff. The successful candidate will be a skilled, practical professional who combines technical ability with leadership and organisational skills. They will take pride in maintaining a historic estate while ensuring it meets the needs of a busy modern school.
The Role
This is a practical, varied role for someone who enjoys being actively involved in maintaining buildings and facilities. The Buildings Manager will:
* Carry out and oversee day-to-day general building repairs and maintenance across the site.
* Work alongside and lead a small estates/maintenance team.
* Respond promptly to urgent issues and ensure the site remains safe and operational.
* Organise and supervise external contractors when specialist work is required.
* Ensure buildings, facilities, and systems are safe, secure, and compliant with regulations.
* Take pride in preserving our historic estate while supporting the needs of a busy modern school.
The Person
We are looking for someone who is:
* Skilled in general building maintenance (e.g. carpentry, plumbing, electrics, or similar trades).
* Organised, reliable, and able to manage tasks across a large, varied site.
* Capable of supervising a small team and liaising with outside contractors.
* Knowledgeable about health & safety, compliance, and building services.
* Flexible, proactive, and able to take ownership of the estate's day-to-day needs.
* Aware of environmental sustainability and energy efficiency in building management.
