The Security Advisor plays a key role in supporting the delivery of a safe and secure environment across the Trust. Reporting to the Security Service Manager within the Risk Services team, the postholder will work collaboratively with internal departments and external agencies—including police and regulatory bodies—to manage and improve security standards.
This role involves monitoring and investigating security incidents, supporting compliance with legislation and NHS guidance, and contributing to the development of security strategies and training. The Security Advisor will also assist in managing outsourced security contracts, oversee the use of security technologies (e.g., CCTV, access control, lone working systems), and promote a culture of safety. The post requires strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently across multiple sites and service areas.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Supporting the Security Manager to deliver a safe and secure environment, working with stakeholders within the NHS and external organizations such as the police, professional bodies, and trade unions to address violence and aggression against staff and professionals.
2. Assisting the Risk Management team with reports and compliance related to legislation, regulations, and standards concerning security, violence, and aggression.
3. Supporting the management of outsourced security services, providing guidance and promoting engagement with staff and managers.
4. Monitoring and investigating Datix incidents related to security, reviewing incident information, and investigating breaches when necessary.
5. Contributing to the development and review of the Trust's Security Strategy, policies, and procedures, considering new guidance from NHSI, NHS Resolution, and other bodies.
6. Acting as a liaison for police cases requiring internal investigations and supporting safeguarding referrals involving the police.
7. Supporting the delivery of the Security risk assessment process for buildings, recommending solutions to mitigate risks.
8. Maintaining CCTV databases, monitoring compliance, and processing access requests.
9. Supporting the management of outsourced security contracts, including recommending contract variations.
10. Contributing to the development of conflict resolution training content in line with guidance.
11. Liaising with the Local Counter Fraud Management Specialist and other agencies.
