Band 6 - Rotational Physiotherapist, Inpatient Therapies

This is an exciting opportunity to progress within our well-established and dynamic physiotherapy service, working across Watford General Hospital, St Albans City Hospital, and the West Hertfordshire Therapy Unit at Jacketts Field, Abbots Langley.

We are looking for an experienced band 5 or an existing band 6 looking to build on their skills through our rotational post.

Our Band 6 scheme offers rotations through both inpatients and outpatients, allowing the post holder to gain further experience within these varied settings.

The rotations are usually 6 months and rotate through:

* Frailty
* Care of the Elderly
* Respiratory including ITU
* Surgical including outpatient Amputees
* Acute Stroke Unit
* Orthopaedics - trauma and elective (involving cross site working)
* MSK.

Each rotation is supported by a robust senior tier with a wealth of experience to help guide and support in both your individual learning needs but to also strive to ensure that the best standards of care are provided. A well established probation and appraisal process is in place to help facilitate this.

The department is 7 day working and this post would be included in that rota (frequency of 1:4 - 1:6 weekends) with rest days in the following week, along with a requirement to be on the Respiratory on call evening rota.


Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be providing highly skilled physiotherapy assessment and treatment inpatients across Watford General Hospital, St Albans City Hospital and the West Hertfordshire Therapy Unit at Jacketts Field, Abbots Langley.

The post holder will join a growing integrated team of Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists and will have the opportunity to develop both their clinical and supervisory skills.

Excellent clinical reasoning and therapy handling skills are a prerequisite for this post.

We also offer In-Service training opportunities and experience will be gained in the supervision of band 5 physiotherapists, assistants and undergraduates.

In addition, we have senior leadership training opportunities and a robust in service training programme. There are also opportunities for course funding both externally and through the department's links with the University of Hertfordshire.

We can offer training opportunities to develop your specialist skills in line with your PDR.

Job responsibilities

Person Specification


Education and qualifications:

* Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy or equivalent recognised by Health Care Professionals Council.
* Physiotherapy degree qualification or equivalent.
* Documented evidence of Continued Professional Development of expanded specialist skills.
* Attendance at post graduate courses in relevant fields.


Knowledge:

* Understanding of Physiotherapy structure in NHS.
* Standards - Health Care Professions Council/ Chartered Society of Physiotherapy/ Local.
* Policies and Procedures (local e.g. Health and Safety).
* Ability to search and review evidence base.
* Understanding of clinical governance and the implications for the service.
* Evidence of written projects/audit.


Experience:

* Clinical problem-solving ability.
* NHS experience.
* Skill in physiotherapeutic techniques.
* Highly developed physical skills, dexterity, coordination and sensory skills for assessment and manual treatment of patients.
* Willing to participate in emergency/on call duties.
* Ability to assess patient conditions establish a diagnosis and formulate a specialised treatment plan, from a range of modalities.
* Experience as a Physiotherapist in a paediatric role/rotation.
* Acute/Community.
* Respiratory on-call/emergency experience.
