Offer description

Project Manager - Assurance (Natural Capital Ecosystem Assessment) - 31069

We promote an inclusive culture and welcome all applicants including disabled, LGBT+ or Black Asian and Minority Ethnicities.

This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in delivering the Environment Agency’s Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment (NCEA) Programme — a flagship initiative shaping how we understand and manage the water environment. The Programme supports Defra's wider NCEA programme in building a groundbreaking evidence base on the state and value of our natural environment and ecosystems to transform environmental decision-making in England.

As a Project Manager responsible for assurance, you will lead the technical assurance of the 12 monitoring networks within the programme. You'll collaborate with specialists in science, data, and operations to ensure network alignment with programme goals, maintaining strong relationships across teams.

We’re looking for someone energetic, initiative-driven, and tenacious. Ideally, you will have experience working in science programmes or large projects, be organized and detail-oriented, and capable of managing delivery across time, cost, and quality. You’ll thrive in a complex, fast-paced environment and enjoy working with both technical and non-technical colleagues.

If you’re passionate about making a real difference for nature and society — and enjoy translating strategy into delivery — we’d love to hear from you.

The team

You will join the NCEA Programme Management team within our Environment and Business (Chief Scientist Group) Directorate and report to the EA NCEA Senior Project Manager. We are a small, friendly team committed to improving the water environment. We support flexible working to promote work-life balance and reduce our carbon footprint.

Find out more about the NCEA here: Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment Programme - GOV.UK.

Experience/skills Required

You should have evidence of:

* Supporting the delivery of Programmes or large projects.
* Delivering work with a focus on quality and attention to detail.
* Stakeholder engagement and organizational skills.
* Managing finances, procurement, and building budgets in a programme environment.
* Building good relationships and working collaboratively.

Desirable:

* Experience with PRINCE2 principles.
* Experience working in virtual teams.
* Awareness of Business change.
* Knowledge of the NCEA Programme.

Additional information

You’ll have an incident management objective in your development plan, with support and training provided. The role is flexible nationally, with an EA office base required. Some travel and overnight stays will be necessary.

For more info, see the Candidate / Additional Information Pack. Queries can be directed to mike.fraser@environment-agency.gov.uk, emma.blunden@environment-agency.gov.uk, or liane.baiao@environment-agency.gov.uk.

Interviews via MS Teams are scheduled for late June/early July. We may hold your details for 6 months if you opt for the reserve list, with potential for alternative posts.

Contract length

Up to 31/07/26
