MAIN SCOPE OF THE JOB : Providing high quality care and support for young adult male with cerebral palsy, combining with other current personal assistants. Provide reliable and flexible support to his family. MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES You will need to be flexible to help cover a rota and on-call shifts (with prior notice). Key Responsibilites Assist with personal care Driving his adapted vehicle Helping with physiotherapy/hydrotherapy Administering medication Supporting him in daily activities such as going to the park, cinema, theatre, pub You will need A full, clean driving licence To be able to swim To be able to communicate in fluent English To have been a UK resident in the UK for at least 3 years (and be eligible to work) To be subject to an enhanced DBS (minimum of 3 years UK DBS check) To live within a 30 minute drive to Wolverhampton To have availability in the week (particularly mornings) As this role is very specific, we ideally need to recruit a female applicant in accordance with The Equality Act 2010. As a member of staff Work with client, professionals and family to undertake duties commensurate with the post and, as requested by the client, family and team leader. The client's parents will continue to take a leading role in the care of their son. Therefore, all duties/ change in duties will require negotiation and agreement with them. Work with the family, colleagues and professionals/ therapists to ensure a consistent and coordinated approach to the client's needs and developments. Be aware of issues of safeguarding and alert appropriate persons to any concerns regarding the client's safety and wellbeing. Be reliable and punctual. In the case of being unable to attend work due to an emergency or a case of illness, alert the family at the earliest possible opportunity. Be prepared to cover for other support workers, in case of illness or emergency and work additional hours, as required and to ensure continuity of care for the client. Maintain expected high standards of support. Attend and participate in team meetings, when called by team leader. Attend and participate in training and supervision meetings, to maintain good practice. Direct work with the client Be familiar with all aspects of the client's daily routine, once training/ shadow shifts have taken place. Work in accordance with and follow therapeutic guidelines, care plans and risk assessments. Ensure the client's individual requirements are met in a safe, sensitive and caring manner, and that activities and routines are arranged so that the client's needs are paramount. Build positive relationships with client, based on choice, communication and shared activities. Be imaginative in finding new interests, activities and opportunities with the client, both at home and out. Keep the client's areas/rooms clean and tidy at all times, undertaking domestic duties and household tasks. Respect and fit in with the family's routine. Maintain the client's dignity, respect and privacy at all times. Ensure confidentially in all record keeping and discussions concerning the client and their family Assist the client with therapeutic programmes, goals and exercises, as instructed by therapists or parents. Maintain patience and calmness at all times and act on own initiative to deal with circumstances to the best of your ability. Administer any medication prescribed and agreed with the family. Keep a written record of all medication administered. Provide a daily written record of work. Note any changes or significant information in the Communication Records book, and advise parents. Keep accurate records of any spending, providing receipts to ensure accountability. Always show sensitivity and consideration when working in the client's home, respecting the family's personal boundaries and privacy. General Ensure all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard. Ensure the welfare of the client is paramount at all times. Always carry out responsibilities with due regard to the Equal Opportunities Policy. Always comply with relevant legislation and operational guidelines. The appointment is subject to satisfactory enhanced DBS checks and two excellent verbal/written references.
