FLSA Status: Exempt/Salary

Reports to: Principal

Summary:

The School Counselor, under the supervision of the Principal, is employed to provide educational, career, social, and personal counseling for all students in order to support each child’s optimal development and to fulfill the mission and philosophy of the school.

Position Responsibilities:

1. Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
2. Supports and adheres to the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees and policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese
3. Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
4. Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis, and takes precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others.
5. Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization to include but not limited to client names and information, services rendered to clients, donors names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information.
6. Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy is mandatory.
7. Every employee is required to take a solution-oriented approach in their interactions and undertakings, as well as being a team member that promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
9. Implement a comprehensive counseling program to include classroom guidance, individual counseling, small group counseling, crisis counseling, and consultation services.
10. Coordinate the campus guidance program in collaboration with campus administration and staff.
11. Guide students in educational and career planning.
12. Attend discipline, attendance, and academic review committee meetings as needed.
13. Provide consultation to campus administration and staff to effectively support their efforts to foster each child’s optimum academic, social, emotional, spiritual, and behavioral development.
14. Provide support, consultation, and counseling to parents who may need skills to effectively support their child’s optimum academic, social, emotional, spiritual, and behavioral development.
15. Maintain an open and collaborative relationship with the administration, faculty, and staff.
16. Perform duties consistent with the policies of the School and the Archdiocese of San Antonio Department of Catholic Schools.
17. Make referrals and follow-up with community providers/specialists as necessary to support student progress and school success.
18. Utilize data for campus counseling program evaluation and planning.
19. Abide by the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees.
20. Maintain files and retain copies of request forms, release forms for records, follow-up records, observation reports, conference documentations, interactions with students, parents, and teachers, etc.
21. Keep administration informed in a timely manner of student concerns in accordance with school policies, policies of the Archdiocese, and in accordance with the ethical standards of the profession and licensure.
22. Keep all school matters and student documentation confidential.
23. Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the campus administration.
Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

24. Master’s degree in Counseling or related mental health field (Licensure or certification preferred)
25. Master’s degree in Psychology or Social Work with courses included or added that address theories and methods in counseling, psychology of adolescence, career information and development, multicultural counseling, as well as vocational, academic and career testing.

Experience

26. Minimum of one year of experience in a school setting.

License and Credentials

27. Reliable transportation
28. Valid driver license
29. Valid vehicle insurance
30. Must pass archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening

Must have good critical thinking and problem solving skills.
