Overview
Job Summary: As a Senior Support Worker, you will play a key role in leading and supporting a team to provide high-quality, person-centred care to individuals with a variety of needs, such as learning disabilities, mental health conditions, autism, or physical disabilities. You will act as a role model to support workers and ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the service in line with organizational values and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
 1. Support Delivery
 o Provide high-quality, compassionate, and person-centred support to service users.
 o Promote independence, dignity, and choice in everyday life.
 o Assist with daily activities including personal care, medication, mealtimes, and community involvement.
 o Develop and maintain positive relationships with service users, families, and other stakeholders.
 2. Leadership & Supervision
 o Support and mentor junior staff, leading by example in all aspects of care and conduct.
 o Provide supervision, guidance, and on-the-job training to support staff.
 o Delegate tasks appropriately and ensure accountability within the team.
 o Help coordinate rotas, shift planning, and cover.
 3. Care Planning & Record Keeping
 o Assist with creating, reviewing, and updating care/support plans and risk assessments.
 o Ensure accurate and timely documentation in line with policies and procedures.
 o Monitor outcomes and contribute to care plan reviews and person-centred planning meetings.
 4. Safeguarding & Compliance
 o Promote and maintain a safe and supportive environment, ensuring safeguarding protocols are followed.
 o Support with incident reporting, investigation, and resolution.
 o Comply with regulatory requirements (e.g., CQC or equivalent) and contribute to service audits and inspections.
 5. Communication & Collaboration
 o Liaise with healthcare professionals, families, and external agencies as needed.
 o Communicate effectively within the team and with management.
 o Participate in team meetings, training, and development sessions.
Person Specification
Essential:
 * Previous experience in a support worker or similar care role.
 * NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or willingness to work towards).
 * Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
 * Good understanding of safeguarding, mental capacity, and care planning.
 * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
 * Ability to work flexibly including evenings, weekends, and sleep-in shifts.
Desirable:
 * Experience in a senior or supervisory care role.
 * Medication administration training.
 * Full driving licence (if service requires).
