Project Officer, Archaeobotany: Edinburgh.

Salary range £30,374-35,996 (depending on experience; 26/27 pay review pending).

In response to the recent and ongoing large‑scale fieldwork programmes across the UK we are expanding our in‑house post‑excavation services. We are seeking candidates with skills in archaeobotany to work in this growing department and to be part of the vibrant post‑excavation team shaping the future direction of our environmental services in a range of exciting and rewarding programmes.


Role

This position, based in our Edinburgh office, involves working with our national post‑excavation team on a broad range of post‑excavation projects with a focus on archaeobotany. This may include some or all of the following categories:

* Carbonised macroplant
* Waterlogged macroplant
* Charcoal

You will work with the senior archaeobotanist and other members of the in‑house environmental specialist team in designing, quantifying and delivering the archaeobotanical elements of our post‑excavation projects.

Your reporting will consider comparative assemblages and sites and will align with national/regional research agendas. You will support the development of junior staff through coaching and mentoring. Your work will include adherence to project budgets, compliance with timescales for project deliverables and quality assurance.

Essential

About you

* A positive and enthusiastic professional with a passion for interpreting the past through analysis of botanical remains
* Degree level qualification/s in a relevant heritage discipline
* Demonstrable skills in the analysis, interpretation and reporting of plant remains from archaeological sites
* Technical and academic reporting skills
* Knowledge in the archaeology of Scotland
* Drive, initiative, positivity and a methodical working approach with the confidence to work autonomously
* Enjoy being part of an enthusiastic and dedicated team that is pivotal to the success of AOC Archaeology Group


Desirable

* Knowledge in the archaeology of Britain
* Post graduate degree in a relevant heritage discipline
* Publication track record
* Experience of working in a commercial heritage environment
* CIfA membership
* Full and current driving licence entitling you to drive in the UK
