Finance Assistant – Payments Team

We are looking for a Finance Assistant to join our friendly and professional Payments Team, based at County Hall, Beverley.
The Payments Team provides an essential service to the Council, ensuring that over 360,000 supplier invoices are processed accurately and paid on time each year. In this role, you’ll support the smooth running of the Accounts Payable service by processing invoices, maintaining supplier records, and responding to supplier and internal queries.

About the role
As a Finance Assistant, you will:
1. Process supplier invoices and payment requests efficiently and accurately
2. Handle supplier and customer enquiries in a professional and helpful way
3. Maintain accurate records, including independently verifying changes to supplier bank details
4. Support general administrative tasks such as post handling, filing, and invoice preparation
5. Work collaboratively with colleagues to meet service standards and deadlines
6. Contribute ideas and suggestions to improve processes and ways of working
About you
We’re looking for someone who:
7. Has experience in an administrative, finance, or customer‑focused role
8. Works accurately with strong attention to detail and good numeracy skills
9. Can organise and prioritise their workload to meet deadlines
10. Communicates clearly and professionally with a range of customers and colleagues
11. Is confident using IT systems, including Microsoft Office
12. Takes pride in delivering reliable, high‑quality work
Experience in a finance or accounts payable environment would be an advantage, but it’s not essential — a positive, flexible attitude and commitment to learning are just as important.
