Beechwood College is an innovative specialist education, residential care and clinical service which caters for young people and adults with an Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) and other associated complex needs, including behaviours that challenge.
Beechwood College is a two part service that operates with one vision; to enrich the lives of all students, promoting lifelong learning and skill development. Registered as an independent Further Education College and Care Home for Younger Adults, Beechwood College is located in Sully, Vale of Glamorgan, on the outskirts of Cardiff and is designed to provide specialist education and residential care services for up to 57 young people and adults from the age of 16+.
As a Home Manager at Beechwood College you’ll provide middle management leadership to Team Leader’s and support staff to ensure the development and optimal outcomes for all students on site. This role will predominantly require you to support and lead your staff to ensure our students personal needs and care within their residential setting are maintained to the highest standards. To achieve this you will also be expected to work collaboratively across all areas of the College including alongside educational and clinical services staff and the wider community.
You will actively seek to encourage and promote the development of independence and transferable life skills for our students, and work in proactive, close partnership with our multidisciplinary team, care coordinators and the students’ family.
To be a successful Home Manager you will need to demonstrate enthusiasm and an innovative approach to enriching the lives of those we support and leading others to do the same. You should be able to demonstrate Previous experience in a similar management role or provide evidence of the relevant qualities required to step up from a Team Leader/ Supervising role.
The Hours of work are 37.5 per week worked flexibly over 7 days to meet the needs of the business (inclusive of bank holidays). Predominantly these will be worked Monday – Sunday on an early or late shift basis. (0700-1500 or 1300–2100). This post involves shift work and the expectation to take part in an on call rota. Shifts and on call rotas will be worked in conjunction with other Home Managers on site.
Role Requirements
15. At least 2 years previous experience of working in Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or Learning Disability care sectors.
16. Be registered with Social Care Wales (SCW)
17. QCF level 5 or working towards (to possess or to be prepared to work towards its completion within 6 months of being offered the post.)
18. Excellent communication skills at all levels including a sound knowledge of the English language, both written and spoken
19. A high standard of education with regard to numeracy and literacy skills
20. Be experience in multi-site and/ or multi department management.
21. Experience and understanding of HR practices, policies and procedures
22. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage and develop staff and create a robust team
23. Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite eg Word / Excel / Outlook
24. Current Driving Licence
All staff who work in a service that is registered with Care Inspectorate for Wales (CIW) will be required to register with Social Care Wales from 1st October 2022. You must also be prepared to work towards/undertake the necessary qualifications to meet the requirements to register.
