Scrub Team Leader

CountyDurham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust invite applications for the positionof Scrub Team Leader for our site at Darlington Memorial Hospital.

The departmental PracticeDevelopment team, in coordination with the Theatre Management team, support thestaff members to identify and realise areas for career progression, both on anindividual basis and also as a team approach to achieving their highestpotential.


Main duties of the job

Prioritise daily activities to respond tochanging circumstances, providing a seamless service to users.

Develop work plans andallocate work, consistent with departmental objectives, ensuring these are realisticand achievable, taking into account multidisciplinary team members abilitiesand developmental needs.

Contribute to recruitmentand retention using agreed methods and protocols for staffing and skill mix

Objectively assess the workof multidisciplinary team members, providing clear constructive feedback in amanner most likely to improve/maintain performance.

Contribute to the ongoingaudit cycle to identify issues which arise during the perioperative phase.Participate in effective implementation of measures to combat these issues.

Participate in direct careneeds of the patient, providing expert knowledge of clinical specialities andact as a role model

Monitor the standards ofassessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.

Be proactivewith audit and monitoring of documentation to ensure that it is produced inaccordance with Trust policy and also NMC/HCPC guidelines.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

From April 9th 2025 - Healthcare assistants - You must have a minimum of two yearsof experience working within the NHS as a HCA for the Trust to considersponsorship (we will only consider sponsorship if you meet this criteria andhave a current visa expiring within 3 months)


Job responsibilities

Toprovide patient care within the perioperative environment and act as a skilledmember of the multidisciplinary team.

To assess care needs,develop programmes of care and implement and evaluate these programmes of care,carrying out all relevant forms of peri-operative patient care without directsupervision over a 24 hour period, caring for both adult and paediatricpatients undergoing routine and emergency surgery.

To provide perioperativecare within the theatre environment, across the range of specialities offeredby the Trust.

The care to be delivered inline with both local and national policies, procedures and guidelines.

Person Specification


Special Skills & Knowledge

* Excellent interpersonal skills.
* Computer skills. Specific skills relevant to area of practice. Recruitment and selection skills.


Experience

* Existing experience as an scrub practitioner.
* Experience leading a team.


Qualifications

* Registered Nurse /Operating Department Practitioner.
* Experience as a Registered Nurse / ODP within the Operating Theatre.Teaching and assessing qualification or willingness to work towards.Diploma or degree or willingness to work towards or relevant practical experience within the department specialities. Leadership qualification.


Statutory Registration

* Registered with NMC or HCPC
