The job itself
The Supported Housing Team is a CQC registered service that works across local communities to support and enable people who have a learning disability/autism to live as independently as possible in their own homes, or in shared accommodation. We seek a self -motivated, positive, and committed person, with good core values, to join our Beechwood ISL service in Welton in a Care Worker role, working as part of a team supporting people in their own flats within the scheme.
You must be
1. Able to offer previous experience of working with people, be it in a paid or voluntary capacity, and be able to demonstrate good customer focus, and an understanding of the needs of people who have a learning disability/ autism.
2. Approachable and able to offer good verbal and written communication skills and a person centred and flexible approach.
3. Able to use initiative when lone working and take a common sense approach in supporting people with their own daily routines and choices.
4. Able to offer good time management skills and organisational skills.
5. Able to offer understanding of support planning / risk assessment /health and safety processes.
6. Able to work in partnership with families and other agencies.
7. Able to work flexibly as per shift pattern across a 7 day rota.
You will need to hold a full driving licence as staff support people to access the community using fleet cars attached to the scheme.
Duties will include working with individuals in their home to support independence and choice in terms of their daily routines and activities. This will include personal care routines, household tasks, menu planning and cooking, medication and health appointments, social activities and outings, employment, hobbies and interests and so on - supporting people to achieve their desired outcomes in life in the way they choose, with consideration of safety at all times.
Qualification to QCF/ NVQ 2/3 Care Award or equivalent is desirable, as is the willingness to develop skills and undertake required training for the role (This will include the East Riding Care Certificate portfolio)
Hours are worked on a shift rota basis, over seven days, including alternate weekends and bank holidays (as rota)
Night rate is paid on hours between 8pm and 6am.
