Department Hepatology - Medicine
Band 7 pro rata if part-time
Hours: 37.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working
Due to expansion of the service, we are currently looking for a Band 7 Hepatology advanced nurse practitioner or clinical nurse specialist to join our established team. Their duties will include assessing patients acutely within the trust, acting as an autonomous practitioner in outpatient clinics and managing the diagnostic and treatment pathways for patients diagnosed with liver disease.
This exciting role will provide the successful candidate with a dynamic skill set and the opportunity to work within a multi-professional team to improve the care of the patients we serve. They should have proven experience of gastroenterology and experience in caring for hepatology patients. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.

The post holder will act as a highly specialist nurse resource providing knowledge and clinical expertise, who is able to work autonomously, making high level decisions to support and improve services for patients in the Trust and referred from Primary Care with Hepatic liver disease. To set up and lead on the secondary care Hepatology nursing service working across the acute Hepatology pathway and nurse led clinics.
They will be expected to work independently performing advanced assessment, planning and implementation of care, nurse prescribing as appropriate, maintain associated records and demonstrating good clinical decision-making skills in the investigation, management and discharge of patients with Hepatic liver disease.
The post holder will work closely with other services and directorates to ensure maximum effectiveness, quality and an excellent patient experience and undertake research and lead clinical audits within own area. Synonymous with this, the post-holder will have an important educational role with not only patients and their families but also with other clinicians (medical and nursing) providing specialist advice, education and training to other staff and students in raising awareness of the symptoms, signs, diagnostic investigations, treatment options and monitoring of patients with Hepatic liver disease. They will be an accessible, approachable, highly visible figure to patients, relatives and clinician colleagues.
