Role Summary:
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the Chief Engineer. The role requires a degree in Mechanical Engineering, significant experience in HVM and structural engineering, and strong project leadership skills. The successful candidate will divide their time between our Bilston and Nottingham offices and will bring a strong technical understanding, with the ability to multi-task, prioritise their own workload, and work independently.
The Senior Engineer will lead and develop HVM and R&D technical solutions, provide engineering authority, and guide technical developments for infrastructure schemes. They will be responsible for preparing and assisting in the preparation of technical documentation (including installation and fabrication drawings, installation manuals, and technical advice notes) as well as undertaking engineering calculations. The ideal candidate will have proven project management expertise, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to engage confidently with internal and external stakeholders to drive successful project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead special R&D projects, ensuring successful execution.
* Oversee project planning, including Fabrication drawings and product installation
* Direct and control projects to ensure they meet required standards, timescales, and budgets.
* Support the commercial team in assessing the market, identifying opportunities for innovation.
* Estimate costs for initial product review
* Provide technical support, including production drawings, general arrangement drawings and Bill of Quantities for infrastructure schemes.
* Work closely with subcontractors to ensure smooth installation and re-instatement during testing.
* Maintain regular communication with internal teams to ensure project objectives are met.
* Stay up to date with industry best practices, engaging with suppliers to maintain best practice (fabrication)
* Support and adhere to all health and safety procedures, including accident and near-miss reporting, ensuring full compliance with statutory requirements.
* Regular engagement with Sales, Supply Chain, and external technical stakeholders.
Key Requirements:
* You will hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering, with a Master's qualification considered highly desirable.
* You will have proven experience in CAD and Finite Element Analysis, enabling you to contribute effectively from day one.
* You will bring strong knowledge of cross section analysis, structural analysis, and CDM Regulations.
* Ideally, you will also have an understanding of hostile vehicle mitigation, kinetic energy, and geotechnical survey and analysis.
* You will be confident using Microsoft Office and AutoCAD, with additional experience in Inventor and Vault Professional seen as an advantage.
* A full UK driving licence would be beneficial to support travel as required.
