Transport / Senior Transport & Development Planning Consultant

This permanent, full‑time position is based in Leeds, Sheffield, Newcastle, Manchester, Liverpool and is open to qualified UK candidates who can thrive in an innovative and collaborative environment.
Overview
As a Senior Transport Planner you will work on a range of high‑profile projects for clients such as National Grid, Royal Mail, Anglian Water, Manchester Airports Group, Yorkshire Wildlife Park, local authorities and NHS trusts. You will deliver technical transport assessments, engineering solutions and mitigation strategies that support the development and delivery of major infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess development impacts and develop appropriate mitigation measures.
* Commission and analyse transport data, produce transport assessments, transport statements, travel plans and construction traffic management plans.
* Provide technical advice for feasibility proposals, transport engineering solutions and highway designs at feasibility and concept stages.
* Attend client and stakeholder meetings, assist in tender documentation and post‑implementation evaluation of projects.
Candidate Specification
Essential
* Minimum 3 years of relevant industry experience in development‑related transport planning, traffic management or highway engineering.
* Experience with transport assessments, statements, travel plans, construction traffic management and EIA traffic and transport chapters.
* Proficiency with industry standard transport planning software (e.g. TRANSYT, LinSig, ARCADY, PICADY, JUNCTION 8, TRICS, TEMPRO).
* Understanding of feasibility, concept and preliminary highway design to DMRB and Manual for Streets standards.
* High numeracy and literacy skills, clear written and verbal communication.
* Self‑directed, practical problem‑solving approach and strong teamwork capability.
Desirable
* Private sector experience supporting public sector clients.
* Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MXRoad or vehicle tracking packages.
* Project management experience, including delivery of internal projects.
* Excellent communication with all organisational levels and leadership roles.
* Partnership working experience with clients.
