Great Bear Project In March 2022 Kinross acquired Great Bear Resources and its flagship Great Bear project (GBR), located near Red Lake, Ontario. The Great Bear property is a greenfield, large-scale deposit with the potential for significant open pit and underground operations. In 2025, the project has moved into the detailed engineering and major equipment procurement phase. The Preliminary Economic Assessment released in September 2024 indicated a total initial project capital of $1.4B. The Senior Project Engineer will be responsible for the coordination and interface management of detailed engineering and field engineering activities to ensure quality and on time delivery of engineering deliverables. The role report to the GBR Project Engineering Manager and will work closely with GBR Engineering Leads, Kinross Technical Services Engineering (KTS), Engineering Consultants, Vendors and other subject matter experts. This role is based in Toronto or on rotation to Toronto, with occasional travel to the Project site in Red Lake. It is initially an 18-month contract, but may be extended into the Construction Phase, and if so, the role would be on rotation to the project site in Red Lake, Ontario. Job Responsibilities Support the Project Engineering Manager in coordinating project engineering activities, ensuring that the activities are delivered on budget and schedule, and that the engineering meets the Project design and quality objectives. Liaise with Kinross Technical Services (KTS) for subject matter expertise as required and ensure key KTS members are consulted and involved in key activities and decision points regarding design, operability and maintainability. Collaborate and coordinate with cross-functional teams of consultants, contractors, vendors and work closely with the Project team to ensure quality engineering deliverables regarding safety in design, constructability and cost. Work closely with Kinross ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) personnel regarding environmental related matters, including controls, greenhouse emissions, hazardous materials controls, etc. Collaboratively work with permitting technical team to ensure Engineering deliverables to support permitting are delivered on time and at the required quality. Support detailed engineering RFPs packages for major equipment by coordinating with Engineering Consultants and GBR Engineering Team. Support the effective management of EP contract scope, quality and commercial terms, with support from contract administration. Participate in procurement plan meetings to support coordination between GBR Procurement Team and GBR Engineering Team Ensure the GBR Engineering Team is completing reviews of engineering project documents on a timely basis (standards, technical specifications, datasheets, drawings, vendor data, etc.). Coordinate the material take-offs process for the capital estimate between GBR Engineering Team and Engineering Consultants. Prepare a quality surveillance (QC) plan for major equipment. Ensure the incorporation of industry best practices into project design to ensure capital estimate is optimized. Participate in and provide value added insights in detailed engineering alignment sessions and workshops. Carry out various special technical requests from the project team for evaluating potential design alternatives or optimizations Coordinate and visit the Red Lake site as required, to resolve problems, interpret drawings and documents and provide technical support during the construction phase. Act in as a Package Manager role on specific equipment or services contracts as assigned Prepare business cases and reports regarding the project and initiative. Other related activities as directed by the Great Bear Project Engineering Manager. Education And Experience Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. A minimum of 15 years of related work experience in major capital projects, preferably in the mining industry, with field engineering and commissioning experience preferred, operational experience is an asset. Good understanding of mining and associated infrastructure (gold or similar mineral processing), particularly in cold weather environments.
