Salary: Fee paid, £483.45 per day. In line with the JNC Coroners Circular 69.

Leicestershire County Council is seeking to appoint a new Assistant Coroner to support the Senior Coroner across the full range of coroner duties, delivering a high-quality service to the people of North Leicestershire and Rutland.
Note: Successful candidates will be required to attend a mandatory Assistant Coroner Induction training course on 2-3 December 2025.
About the post:
We are looking for an exceptional candidate with excellent organisational, management, and communication skills, as well as experience exercising sound judgment. You will work closely with the Senior Coroner to ensure an efficient service that prioritizes the bereaved.
Requirements include knowledge of coroner law, basic medical understanding, investigative skills, and court procedure familiarity. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for handling sensitive situations.
The role involves duties as defined in the Coroners and Justice Act 2009 and related guidance. It is a fee-paid position with a commitment of at least 20 days per year, with occasional out-of-hours availability.
Who can apply:
Applicants must be a barrister, solicitor, or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives with at least 5 years of experience. They must be under 75 years old and meet the eligibility conditions for judicial appointment.
Statutory terms of the appointment:
Appointed Coroners are judicial office holders until age 75 unless they resign or are removed earlier.
