Job Summary
Rehabilitation assistants needed for a 12‑month secondment with the Critical Care Rehab team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals (LTHT), covering LGI and St James University Hospital.
The successful candidates will work clinically within the multi‑disciplinary team, maintain high standards of practice and deliver outstanding, patient‑centred care in critical care units and during ward step‑down.
Applicants must hold the right to work in the UK and be experienced, dynamic, motivated and compassionate.
Job Responsibilities
The jobholder will actively provide both direct and indirect compassionate care for patients, supporting the multidisciplinary team. Key duties include:
* Planning, implementing and evaluating individual care programmes.
* Delivering high‑standard nursing care, recognising patient needs and ensuring high levels of safety.
* Recording fluid balance, medication and clinical observations.
* Assisting with patient hygiene, mobility, nutrition and use of anti‑embolic stockings.
* Using appropriate PPE and adhering to Trust policies and guidance.
* Collaborating with the team via phone and electronic communication; managing enquiries and escalating concerns to registered practitioners.
* Participating in local audits, infection control and quality improvement initiatives such as the Leeds Improvement Method.
* Working under defined competency boundaries and complying with statutory requirements.
* Leading a team of clinical support workers on a shift‑by‑shift basis and contributing to mentorship and appraisal of junior staff.

Person Specification
* Significant experience delivering personal and clinical care in a healthcare setting.
* Planning and organisational skills.
* Strong interpersonal, communication and teamwork abilities.
* Motivated, compassionate, reliable, and trustworthy.
* Willingness to learn and develop the role.
* Basic IT skills, including written, electronic and verbal communication.
Desirable
* Experience in the relevant speciality or department.
* Basic maths and English Level 2 (equivalent of GCSE 4‑9 A*‑C).
Qualifications
* NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care.
* Diploma in Health Level 3 or Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 3 (or equivalent).
* The Care Certificate, or the commitment to obtain it within the first 3 months.
* Commitment to undergo required training and education.
* Ability to fulfil Occupational Health requirements and travel between Trust premises and patient homes where needed.
