Locality Designer | 9047 | Permanent Contract | 37 hours per week | £31,537 to £33,699 per annum (Scale G) | Saddlebow Depot
We are looking for an organised and self‑motivated individual to join the Highways Maintenance team at Norfolk County Council as a Locality Designer. The Highway Area teams are responsible for the client highway maintenance and street works functions for the County Council as Highway Authority. Working with in‑house and partnership staff to deliver required works, key services include highway inspection and scheme design and identification, member and public interface, supervision of works (including utilities), traffic management inspection and monitoring of all works affecting the public highway. We also handle winter and emergency planning.
The locality‑based Area Design team supports the delivery of Highway‑related Streetscene schemes and activities. The successful applicant will be a key member of staff in the design, development and discovery of solutions to area maintenance problems, enabling the team to deliver its full programme of capital and revenue‑funded schemes.
Whilst it would be preferable to have experience in highway design, maintenance, construction or a similar engineering environment, full training will be given. Excellent communication skills to deliver high‑quality customer service are required. Duties can involve service delivery in emergency situations, such as flooding or winter conditions, which may require work outside normal working hours. Travel is required to deal with operational delivery queries at our contractor’s request; the candidate must be able to travel to locations not accessible on public transport routes.
