As a Graduate Civil Engineer at the Environment Agency, you will combine engineering expertise with environmental stewardship. The role offers purpose, innovation, and real-world impact by protecting communities, wildlife, and natural resources.
Graduate Training Scheme
The scheme is a structured, hands‑on programme spanning 4‑5 years that delivers the skills, experience and leadership opportunities to become a future leader within the Environment Agency. The Environment Agency is recently recognised as the highest new entrant onto The Times Top 100 Graduate Employers list.
Roles and Responsibilities
* Diverse Placements: 6‑12 month rotations across teams such as asset management, strategic planning and site supervision, giving a holistic understanding of flood defence engineering projects.
* Flexible Pathways: Tailored learning to focus on areas like geotechnics, hydraulics, project logistics or any specialty you pursue.
* Learning & Development: Accredited by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and guides you toward Incorporated (IEng) and Chartered (CEng) status.
Qualifications and Experience
* Graduate with an accredited BEng or, ideally, an MEng in Civil Engineering (or equivalent). Both degrees must be accredited by the ICE for the CEng or IEng path.
* Proactive, adaptable and self‑motivated with strong stakeholder collaboration skills.
* Full UK driving licence within 6 months of starting the role.

Shortlisting will take place in January 2026 with interviews in February/March 2026. Successful candidates start in September 2026.
