The Role

This is a unique opportunity for an exceptional and inspirational teacher and leader to take on the role of Lead Practitioner Mathematics in a thriving secondary academy in Grimsby, Lincolnshire. This is a fixed-term contract starting ASAP. The Lead Practitioner will be the exemplary classroom practitioner and pedagogical leader for Mathematics, driving forward teaching and learning across the department and the wider academy.

Requirements

* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification.
* Prior experience in a leadership, coaching, or mentoring role (e.g., as a Second in Department, Key Stage Lead, or Lead Practitioner
* Eligibility to work in the UK.
* Enhanced Child DBS on the updated service (Willingness to apply for one)


Skills

* Expert Subject Knowledge: Deep, secure, and current subject knowledge up to Key Stage 5 (A-Level).
* Coaching Proficiency: Highly developed skills in coaching, mentoring, and providing effective, non-judgemental feedback to secure professional growth in others.
* Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Outstanding ability to build productive professional relationships with staff, students, and parents.
* Resilience & Passion: Demonstrable emotional resilience and an unwavering passion for raising standards for students from all backgrounds.
* Curriculum Design: Proven ability to design and implement creative and rigorous curriculum and assessment models.


Core Responsibilities

* Model Outstanding Practice: Consistently deliver and model high-quality, engaging, and challenging Mathematics lessons to staff and students.
* Curriculum Development: Lead on the design, implementation, and review of a coherent and ambitious Mathematics curriculum.
* Teacher Coaching & Mentoring: Provide 1-to-1 coaching and mentoring to colleagues, offering targeted support to improve classroom practice and build confidence.
* Drive Attainment: Analyse performance data to identify underperforming students/groups and develop, implement, and measure the impact of targeted intervention strategies.
* Staff Training: Design and deliver high-impact Continuing Professional Development (CPD) sessions on evidence-informed teaching and learning strategies.
* Resource Creation: Oversee the development of high-quality, differentiated, and inspiring teaching resources for all Key Stages.
* Quality Assurance: Conduct non-judgemental lesson observations, book scrutinies, and learning walks to monitor standards and identify areas for departmental improvement.
* Disseminate Expertise: Act as a whole-school leader for teaching and learning, sharing best practices and contributing to the wider school improvement agenda.
* Subject Leadership: Take a lead role in the department in the absence of the Head of Department.
* Ethos Alignment: Ensure that the academy's core values-including inclusion and high expectations-are embedded in all aspects of Mathematics teaching.
