 
        
        Responsibilities
 * Take charge of a ward regularly and accept duties delegated by the Ward Manager.
 * Responsible for supporting the delivery of high‑quality evidence‑based care and providing clinical expertise to staff via clinical supervision and training, and supporting patients.
 * Provide senior nursing, leadership and managerial support and advice to the clinical area.
 * Support management of a clinical area including deployment, supervision, teaching of staff/students and resources.
 * Assess individual care needs and develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care as well as setting standards of care across clinical areas.
 * Actively participate in the hospital bleep holding rota.
 * Participate in a coordinated emergency response to fire, security alerts and cardiac arrests and any other clinical emergencies.
 * Report, elevate and act upon issues appropriately.
 * Provide a nursing assessment when appropriate, of referred patients to determine suitability for acute medical & rehabilitation needs.
 * Act as the prime provider of care, practising clinical skills for allocated patients by planning, assessing and designing nursing interventions and patient programmes of care.
 * Monitor standards and provide ongoing evaluation of all care provided.
 * Frequently prepare for, participate in and attend ward rounds and other multi‑professional meetings.
 * Ensure a high standard of nursing in the application of clinical nursing procedures and treatments including custody, storage and administration of medicines.
 * Maintain personal contact with patients and their relatives through conversation ensuring they understand treatments and arrangements made for them.
 * Assist the Ward Manager in the formulation of standards of care, evaluating and monitoring effectiveness of the same.
 * Be responsible for immediate management and clinical supervision of all junior staff throughout each span of duty.
 * Ensure staff follow the clinical area and Trust policies and procedures.
 * Ensure all staff follow legislative and statutory requirements, e.g. Health and Safety at Work Act, Food Hygiene etc.
 * Ensure allocated staff are aware of and deliver care plans and objectives, together with any set activities to be undertaken.
 * Act in accordance with current disciplinary, grievance and complaints procedures.
Eligibility
Only open to applicants from Hampshire & Isle of Wight NHS system, which is limited to Hampshire and Isle of Wight ICB, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Healthcare FT, Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, University Hospital Southampton FT, South Central Ambulance Service, Isle of Wight NHS FT or Hampshire Hospitals FT.
