We now have exciting permanent opportunities for motivated and suitably qualified Piping Calculation Engineers to join our Technical Communities based in the South West of England. Join us and contribute to the mega-infrastructure Nuclear New Build project at Hinkley Point C (HPC).
Job Summary
This role offers the opportunity to contribute significantly to the design phase of the Hinkley Point C project. You will oversee the meticulous design of an extensive piping network, over 100 kilometres long, forming the backbone of the Nuclear Island for the HPC EPR project.
As a Piping Calculation Engineer, your main responsibility will be to ensure the integrity of the pipe network design and its supports by performing detailed piping calculations and assessing HVAC and electrical supports for various load scenarios, including dead weight, thermal expansion, and seismic activity.
Expertise in finite element analysis software is highly valued and essential for this role. Knowledge of Python programming is advantageous for developing specialized tools.
Essential and Desirable Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
Essential
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
* Deep understanding of mechanical concepts, including modal and static analysis
* Proficiency in mechanical simulations, especially finite element methods
* Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements related to mechanical engineering
* Strong problem-solving skills for complex engineering challenges
* Commitment to continuous learning and technological advancement
Desirable
* Experience in EPR or other nuclear projects
* Familiarity with UK design standards and regulatory processes
* High level of technical coordination
* Experience with RSTAB, BEAM STRESS, and support calculations
* Knowledge of RCC-M code (section C3650 at minimum)
* Knowledge of CALTUY/Pipestress
* Programming skills, especially in Python, for developing computational tools
* Experience with CAD software for design and modelling
