A leading Independent School in Norwich is seeking a proactive, organised, and highly practical Art Technician to join its creative arts department from January on a full-time, permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on, solutions-driven candidate who thrives in busy studio environments and enjoys supporting high-quality art and design learning across a range of media. You will work closely with the Head of Art and classroom teachers to ensure lessons run smoothly and safely. Core responsibilities include: preparing and organising materials for lessons (paint, inks, clay, printmaking plates, canvases, photographic chemicals), setting up/clearing down practical workshops, maintaining and safely operating equipment (including kilns, printing presses, guillotines, spray booths, darkroom enlargers, and sewing machines), and keeping studios, sinks and storage areas tidy, labelled, and compliant with H&S standards. You will manage stock and ordering, liaise with suppliers, track budgets, and keep up-to-date inventories. The role also involves supporting exhibitions and displays, mounting and hanging work to a professional standard, photographing and archiving student pieces, and assisting with portfolio preparation and open evenings. School Information: This Independent School has a distinguished tradition of excellence in the arts. The department benefits from purpose-built studios, a photography suite/darkroom, and digital design facilities (including devices running Adobe Creative Cloud). The culture values craftsmanship, experimentation, and artistic risk-taking. You’ll join a friendly, professional team where technicians are treated as essential colleagues, with access to training and time to maintain high standards of safety and presentation. Experience and Qualifications: Previous experience as an Art/DT Technician, studio assistant, or similar workshop role (school or studio). Confident with H&S, including risk assessments, safe systems of work, COSHH, and manual handling (training can be provided). Practical competence with one or more of: ceramics/kiln firing, printmaking, photography/darkroom, framing/mounting, basic carpentry, textile processes, or Adobe Creative Cloud for basic prep and print. Highly organised, excellent attention to detail, calm under pressure, and comfortable working to deadlines across multiple teachers/classes. A relevant craft/design qualification is desirable but not essential; a strong practical toolkit and willingness to learn are key. An enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain) is required. Salary: Competitive salary (Independent School support staff scale), commensurate with experience. Application: Please submit your application with your CV to Natalie Hunter as soon as possible.
