As a Labour Ward Coordinator at East Cheshire, you will have opportunities to influence practice, contribute to service development, and grow as a clinical leader, supported by an approachable senior leadership team.We are seeking an adaptable and resilient individual with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The role involves supporting medical, midwifery, and support staff to ensure the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of maternity care.The post holder will be responsible for coordinating staff and workload across the antenatal, postnatal, and labour ward areas, leading the management of acute obstetric emergencies, and working within the Clinical Governance framework to maintain and improve standards of care.The role forms part of the senior midwifery team responsible for the seamless 24/7 running of the maternity unit and includes participation in the on-call rota to support the provision of a continuous maternity service.Working for our organisationWe are committed to providing the best quality integrated care to our patients. We look forward to receiving your application.Person specificationQualificationsEssential criteria- Registered Midwife with current NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) registration- Midwifery BSc (Bachelor of Sciences) (or equivalent)Desirable criteria- Leadership, management or mentorship qualification- Advanced fetal monitoring or CTG (Cardiotocography) trainer qualification- Professional Midwifery AdvocateKnowledge & SkillsEssential criteria- Excellent knowledge of intrapartum care, fetal monitoring and CTG (Cardiotocography) interpretation- Strong understanding of risk assessment, escalation processes and clinical governance- Ability to prioritise workload and manage competing clinical demands- Highly developed leadership, decision-making and problem-solving skills- Effective communication skills, including escalation and handover- Ability to support, supervise and mentor staff in a busy clinical environment- Competent in documentation and use of electronic maternity records- Understanding of local and national safety initiativesDesirable criteria- Knowledge of workforce planning, rota & finance managementExperienceEssential criteria- Significant post-registration experience as a midwife, including labour ward experience- Experience of coordinating care and managing workload within a busy maternity setting- Experience in supporting and supervising junior staff, students, or multidisciplinary team members- Experience of managing obstetric emergencies and high-risk intrapartum careDesirable criteria- Previous experience in a labour ward coordinator or shift leader role- Experience of audit, quality improvement or service development- Experience of incident review and learning processesOtherEssential criteria- Calm and decisive under pressure- Approachable and supportive leadership style- Ability to manage conflict and challenge practice appropriately- Commitment to patient safety, quality improvement and compassionate care- Flexible and resilient, with the ability to adapt to changing service needsPlease read the guidance for applicants and completing the application form documents prior to completing your application form (documents are located below).We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome all applications irrespective of age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, race or religion.
