Are you a compassionate and committed Learning Support Assistant looking to support children with additional needs in a school setting?
We are recruiting enthusiastic and resilient Learning Support Assistant to work in primary, secondary schools and specialist provisions across the Newport area. This role involves working closely with pupils who have Additional Learning Needs (ALN) and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), offering both academic and emotional support.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide one-to-one and small group support for children with ALN and PMLD.
* Assist pupils with personal care, physical needs, and communication where required.
* Follow individual learning plans and support strategies set by teachers and SENCOs.
* Use specialist techniques and tools (e.g., sensory resources, Makaton, PECS) to aid learning.
* Encourage engagement, confidence, and independence in all students.
* Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment.
* Track progress and communicate effectively with teaching staff and parents where appropriate.
Essential Requirements:
* Experience supporting children with ALN, PMLD, or severe learning difficulties.
* Patient, nurturing, and adaptable approach to working with young learners.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Willingness to support with personal care and physical support as needed.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a busy school environment.
Desirable:
* Training in Makaton, PECS, or other alternative communication methods.
* Manual handling, Team Teach, or safeguarding training.
* Relevant qualifications in childcare, education, or special educational needs.
