Job Summary
An exciting, substantive opportunity has arisen within Norfolk Ward for a Senior Health Care Support Worker. You should have attained the Level 3 qualification and have demonstrable experience of caring for acutely unwell patients in a hospital setting. You should possess good communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to work in a calm and methodical manner. The successful candidate will have recent, up-to-date proven evidence of development. Main Duties
* Assist in the delivery of care planned and assessed by Registered Nurses.
* Carry out care and other duties under indirect supervision.
* Supervise junior health care assistants, contributing to their training and development.
* Undertake specific extended skills and assessor training to assess and sign off competencies within the scope of the role.
* Provide day‑to‑day support care for all patients in the clinical area under indirect supervision.
* Contribute to resource management.

Job Responsibilities
* Obtain consent prior to giving care in accordance with Trust policies.
* Competently undertake delegated duties in line with patient care plans.
* Use knowledge and experience to undertake non‑routine duties and make decisions within your area of responsibility.
* Carry out a range of limited clinical duties with minimal or no supervision – including blood pressure monitoring, oxygen saturation, body temperature, pulse rate, respiration rate, glucose monitoring, collection and testing of urine/ faecal/sputum samples and wound swabs – ensuring high‑quality patient care.
* Participate in patient assessment providing holistic care and escalating concerns to other clinical staff.
* Practice safe standards of care following Trust guidelines and policies; maintain concentration throughout the day.
* Provide clinical care in accordance with infection prevention, health and safety policies.
* Maintain the work environment in line with Trust infection control and patient safety policies.
* Utilise skills to actively facilitate self‑care and independence with patients.
* Promote health education specific to the clinical area and in line with national and local policies.

Essential – Knowledge & Experience
* Demonstrable experience of providing care in a healthcare or social setting.
* Ability to work as a member of a team.
* Experience of time management and prioritising work.
* Committed to a caring approach to patients and relatives.
Essential – Qualifications
* Level 3 (SCQF 6): City and Guilds 3, NVQ 3, BTEC National Diploma or equivalent experience.
* Level 2 functional skills in English and Maths, or equivalent.
* Completion of Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support (mapping to the Apprenticeship Standard for Senior Health Care Support Worker).
* Equivalent demonstrable experience.
Essential – Aptitude & Abilities
* Effective written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to complete documentation accurately.
* Awareness of healthcare work, policies and procedures.
* Commitment to providing high‑quality patient care.
* Work with minimum supervision to a high standard.
* Basic IT skills (Word, Email, keyboard).
* Willingness to undertake appropriate training within given time frames.
* Flexible and adaptable, able to work a range of shifts and move across wards depending on clinical need.
* Demonstrate calm, caring patient manner.
* Enthusiasm and commitment to working within the healthcare setting.
* Meet the physical and developmental demands of the role – including standing for prolonged periods, moving and handling patients and equipment.
