You will also collaborate with the shore‑side HSEQ function to maintain a consistent and integrated approach across the business.

Key Responsibilities

* Act as the subject matter expert for afloat HSEQ matters, supporting operational managers and vessel teams.
* Provide HSEQ oversight and assurance across afloat operations, including participation in operational reviews and safety case development.
* Lead or support incident, accident, and near‑miss investigations, ensuring robust root‑cause analysis and corrective actions.
* Maintain audit readiness and support internal/external audits and regulatory engagements.
* Produce accurate HSEQ performance reports, trend analysis, and lessons‑learned outputs.
* Support and deliver HSEQ training for maritime personnel, working with the Marine Trainer where required.
* Build strong working relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders including MOD, MCA, Classification Societies, and industry partners.
* Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, fleet notices, and cross‑port policy alignment.
* Support HSEQ input into contract changes, vessel transitions, and bid activity.
* Promote a proactive safety culture, encouraging hazard identification, transparent reporting, and shared accountability.
* Strong understanding of maritime operations, vessel safety, and UK Flag/Class regulatory frameworks.
* Proven experience in an HSEQ practitioner role within a maritime or similarly regulated environment.
* Ability to analyse HSEQ data, identify trends, and support data‑driven decision‑making.
* Strong problem‑solving capability and familiarity with structured investigation methodologies.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage workload and prioritise effectively.
* Experience with management systems such as ISO 9001, 45001, 14001 and ISM Code.

Essential Qualifications

* STCW II/2 Chief Mate Unlimited CoC
* Maritime vessel audits and inspections.
* MOD or commercial marine operational experience.
* Environmental reporting and auditing.
* Experience with HAZID, HAZOP, and safety case processes.
* Knowledge of Defence regulatory frameworks.
