About the role:
We are currently working with a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Walsall who are seeking a committed and proactive Head of Year / Pastoral Lead to join their pastoral team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about student welfare, behaviour, and personal development to make a real difference in young people’s lives.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for the overall pastoral care, behaviour, attendance, and wellbeing of a designated year group. You will play a key role in supporting students to overcome barriers to learning, ensuring they are fully engaged in school life and achieving their potential.
This role would suit someone with strong pastoral experience, excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and manage the pastoral care of a designated year group
* Monitor and improve attendance, behaviour and punctuality
* Support students with emotional, social, and behavioural needs
* Work closely with families, external agencies and safeguarding teams
* Implement behaviour strategies and intervention plans
* Track student progress and identify barriers to learning
* Promote a positive school culture and high expectations
* Support safeguarding procedures and contribute to student welfare
* Work collaboratively with teaching staff and senior leaders
The Ideal Candidate:
* Experience in a pastoral, behaviour or student support role (school-based essential)
* Strong leadership and relationship-building skills
* Confident managing behaviour and supporting challenging situations
* Passionate about student wellbeing and personal development
* Able to work effectively with a range of stakeholders including parents and external agencies
* Organised, resilient, and proactive in approach
* Committed to improving outcomes for young people
