Consultant Community CAMHS Psychiatrist The closing date is 07 July 2026.
Location: Stapleford House, Stapleford Close, Chelmsford CM2 0QX; The Coach House, Trinity Street, Halstead CO9 1JD.
Overview The Consultant Community CAMHS Psychiatrist will work as part of multidisciplinary teams providing care to children and young people with mental health needs across Chelmsford and Maldon in Mid Essex.
Key duties include providing senior medical support, direct input on clinical cases, guidance and supervision to junior staff, liaising with external CAMHS and acute hospital providers, developing links and improving services in partnership with local acute trusts, and contributing to teaching and curriculum delivery. The role is part‑time (6 Programmed Activities) and involves on‑call rota responsibilities (1:7 17:00‑09:00 Monday‑Friday, full weekends and bank holidays) primarily delivering telephone advice to crisis teams.
Responsibilities
Organise and prioritise own and team workload and delegate appropriately.
Deputise for the team manager in absence and maintain continuity of service.
Maintain organisational knowledge of Trust protocols and procedures and adhere to them.
Provide accurate records for audit, risk management, and incident reporting.
Ensure service delivery is accountable, evidence‑based, and patient‑centred.
Assess and develop care plans for children and young people with diverse needs, recognising limitations and seeking advice when required.
Initiate referrals to specialist services and support patient and family education.
Serve as clinical supervisor to junior colleagues (FY/CT/GPVTS/ST), fostering a culture of lifelong learning.
Plan and participate in mandatory training, workshops, and appraisal processes.
Support new staff integration and implementation of new policies and guidelines.
Qualifications
Inclusion in, or eligibility for inclusion in, the Specialist Register for Psychiatry or within 6 months of obtaining CCT.
Experience
Mastery in the management of a broad range of mental disorders in adults.
An awareness of NHS strategic and clinical governance priorities.
