Role Overview (HYBRID - London, UK)
Research Librarian role for corporate or professional services experience, focusing on high-quality business and legal research services. As a member of the Information Resources team, the Research Librarian provides research and reference services on business, legal, and specialized resources to consulting and administrative staff for billable casework. The role also includes research-related work for the firm, such as business development research (attorney tracking, case tracking, and case document research).
Responsibilities
* Provide research and reference services using business, legal, and specialized information resources to consulting and administrative staff for billable casework.
* Perform business development research such as attorney tracking, case tracking, and case document research.
* Evaluate sources for currency, reliability, relevance, and cost-effectiveness, and select the best sources to answer research requests.
* Interface with experts, law firms, agencies, libraries, and organizations and represent the firm professionally.
* Compile and organize information from research projects into a coherent, focused collection with explanatory notes as needed; log new resources in public and department databases for future use.
* Develop expertise with the library’s information resources, including research databases and the physical collection.
* Maintain awareness of current developments in legal news and information services, including new specialized databases relevant to the firm’s practice areas.
* Identify and recommend new information resources, including print and electronic formats, to the Associate Director of Information Resources and Senior Director of Information Resources.
* Provide orientation and training on IR resources and collaborate effectively with the Information Resources department.
* Prepare and conduct training for consultants and staff on specific databases or topics, delivered in formal sessions or at the point of need.
* Support at least one practice area in business development needs, including docket tracking, literature searches, and expert searches.
Qualifications
* 3+ years of directly related experience in a similar role.
* Familiarity with financial and economic databases such as CapIQ, Eikon, and Bloomberg, and legal databases such as Westlaw, Bloomberg Law, Lexis, and Lex Machina.
* Intermediate knowledge of MS Office.
* Intermediate knowledge of business and legal databases.
* Intermediate knowledge of reference sources in business and legal areas.
* Significant experience in a corporate library setting with advanced knowledge and skills in subject-specific resources and databases.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff.
* Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with employees and strategic partners.
* Ability to operate with a sense of urgency and respond expediently to requests.
* Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, work independently, and exhibit initiative to solve problems.
* Master’s degree in Library Studies is required; a Master’s degree in another field may be considered if the candidate has significant research experience in a related industry.
