Compliance Consultant - Building Services
Preston and North West (Hybrid - Office, Home & Site Based)
Salary £40,000 - £50,000 (Dependent on Experience)
Job Ref: 38273
We are looking for a Compliance Consultant with a strong Mechanical & Electrical background to join a specialist Building Services compliance team operating across the North West. This is a live role within a growing consultancy focused on auditing existing buildings, identifying regulatory non-compliance and delivering practical, budget-conscious solutions.
You will join a business that works across Healthcare, Residential, Commercial and Public Sector portfolios, including high-risk and complex existing buildings. The team is heavily involved in regulatory compliance, life safety systems and remedial strategies.
From day one, you will be client facing. You will be confident taking briefs, understanding regulatory risks and presenting technical findings clearly to stakeholders. The role will involve carrying out detailed audits of mechanical and electrical building services and life safety systems, identifying non-compliances and producing structured technical reports with recommended remedial actions.
You will be involved throughout the full compliance cycle, including:
Auditing and surveying existing M&E and life safety systems
Analysing findings against current regulations and guidance
Advising clients on risk, enforcement exposure and budget options
Supporting design and technical specifications for remedial works
Assisting with or reviewing tender documentation
Conducting site inspections and witness testing to ensure compliant installation
The majority of the work is within existing buildings rather than new build. This makes it technically engaging, as you will be dealing with legacy systems, historic design decisions, regulatory changes and contractor shortcomings. The role offers a balance of technical analysis, stakeholder advisory and on-site oversight.
Projects will range from individual commercial buildings through to large residential portfolios and complex healthcare environments. You will be helping clients protect building occupants, maintain compliance and safeguard their reputations.
Ideally you will come from a Building Services Consultancy, Contractor or Compliance background, with strong knowledge of UK building services regulations and life safety standards. Experience carrying out technical surveys, writing detailed reports and engaging directly with clients is essential. Site inspection experience is highly desirable.
HNC/HND or Degree qualified in Building Services Engineering (or similar) is preferred. Membership of CIBSE, ASHRAE or IHEEM would be advantageous but is not essential. Authorising Engineer status would also be beneficial.
This is a hybrid role with an expectation of time spent in the office, working from home and attending site visits. It would suit someone who enjoys autonomy, technical problem solving and working in a specialist compliance environment rather than purely design-led consultancy work.
If you are looking to move into a role where you will genuinely influence building safety, regulatory compliance and long-term client strategy, please get in touch for further information.
