Overview
Our client is a well-established and highly regarded provider of ophthalmic services, delivering a range of NHS and private treatments across the UK. They offer outpatient care, diagnostic testing and specialist eye surgery, and are known for their supportive working culture and modern clinical environments.
They are now looking for an experienced Ophthalmic Scrub Nurse to join their team at a state-of-the-art clinic in the Ellesmere Port area.
Role Summary
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week across 4 days), with occasional weekend work on a rota basis. Part-time hours will also be considered. The role is theatre-based and requires current NMC registration.
You will play a key role in supporting patients through their surgical pathway, including pre-operative assessments, intraoperative assistance and post-operative recovery.
Key Responsibilities
* Acting as the scrub nurse for ophthalmic procedures, ensuring instruments and equipment are prepared and sterile.
* Supporting patients throughout their surgical journey, from pre-operative preparation to post-operative care.
* Assisting with pre-operative assessments and providing reassurance and information to patients.
* Delivering post-operative support, including medication advice and discharge instructions.
* Maintaining accurate and compliant clinical documentation, adhering to infection control and safety protocols.
* Assisting with outpatient clinics and diagnostic testing when required.
Essential Requirements
* Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
* Previous experience as a scrub nurse in an ophthalmic theatre environment.
* Strong knowledge of ophthalmic surgical procedures and theatre standards.
* Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume surgical setting (18–22 patients per day).
* Excellent communication skills and a patient-centred approach.
Desirable Skills & Experience
* Background in hospital eye services or private ophthalmic settings.
* Experience with diagnostic tools and investigations such as biometry, OCT, topography, visual fields, slit lamp exams, pachymetry, IOP assessments, etc.
* Understanding of clinical governance and current developments in ophthalmology.
* Experience training or mentoring junior colleagues.
* Confidence using clinical IT systems and maintaining accurate records.
