You’ll be confident working with both electrical and mechanical systems, able to plan ahead but also quick to respond when things go wrong. Strong problem-solving skills, good communication, and the ability to see projects through from start to finish are key. As the role supports our sites in both Cambridge and Sandy, you’ll need to have your own car and be happy to travel between locations when required. JOB DESCRIPTION


Job Details

Business, Locations: PCML March (PE15 0BL), PCML Sandy (SG19 1RB) & PCML Cambridge (CB1 9AP). You\'ll have a designated home site, with travel expenses paid when travelling to other sites.

Role: Maintenance Engineer

Reports to: Operations Director

Primary Purpose: To lead both proactive and reactive/breakdown maintenance across all PCML sites, focusing on reducing the incident of breakdowns and improving production facilities. Ensuring that machinery and equipment operates smoothly and reliably. The role also takes ownership of all electrical and mechanical work, ensuring compliance with regulations and standards. It includes leading facilities projects such as refits, upgrades, and equipment installations, managing work from planning to completion, including snagging and testing. The post ensures all maintenance and project work is carried out safely, efficiently, and reliably to support smooth operations.


Key Responsibilities

* Safety and Compliance: following health and safety rules, wearing PPE, safe work practices, and understanding emergency procedures.
* Equipment Inspection and Troubleshooting: identify whether work equipment can be operated, adjusted, and maintained safely.
* Repair and Maintenance: restoration work when asset breaks, damaged, or stops working. Carrying out routine activities and/or corrective or preventive repair to prevent damage and prolong life.
* Emergency Repairs: respond to emergency calls for equipment breakdowns and prioritise urgent repairs to minimise downtime.
* Preventive Maintenance: plan and implement a rigorous machine maintenance program meeting audit and legal compliance regulations. Covering routine maintenance to keep them running and prevent downtime.
* Electrical & Mechanical Work: provide technical support on M&E compliance, statutory legislation, standards validation, project snagging, equipment factory acceptance testing, and M&E site control.
* Documentation and Reporting: maintain detailed records of maintenance work, including parts used and hours worked. Generate reports for management and supervisors.
* Continuous Learning: stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and best practices. Attend training sessions as needed.
* Facilities Project Management: lead agreed facilities projects from planning to completion, ensuring snagging, testing, and handover are completed safely, on time, and to the required standard.


Person Specification

* Knowledge of PUWER regulations
* Interacting with suppliers, overseeing a team and managing budgets
* Ability to understand a variety of engineering procedures and functions
* Team-working skills to liaise and work cooperatively with individuals at all levels
* Negotiation skills and the ability to persuade others
* Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills
* Ability to work under pressure
* Interpersonal and people-management skills
