Main Purpose of the Job
Based in our Manchester office you will be part of a hardworking and growing team of engineer/consultants specialising in structural engineering projects across the UK. The office is located in an excellent city centre location and is very accessible. As a senior structural design engineer you will work on multidisciplinary projects, liaise with clients and external consultants, perform complex technical work, and ensure delivery meets client requirements. You will bring in‑depth knowledge of structural engineering principles, design codes and standards used in the UK, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. You will also provide direction and development support to junior team members.
Main Duties And Responsibilities
* Perform, check and review structural engineering design calculations to fully meet client specification and relevant standards, building codes and safety regulations.
* Collate project information and liaise with clients, architects and other third parties as required.
* Carry out visual surveys of building structures and produce structural appraisal reports.
* Conduct site visits to monitor construction progress and ensure compliance with design specifications.
* Supervise and delegate project workload to junior staff and others as required.
* Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and team members.
* Check and approve work by other staff, including third‑party design proposals.
* Prepare and present technical reports, proposals and documents related to projects.
* Assist Project Leads in managing project budgets, schedules and resources.
Qualification
* Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or equivalent.
* Chartered status with ICE or IStructE preferred, not essential.
Experience
* Considerable experience in building structure analysis and design.
* Design of reinforced concrete and steel‑framed building structures.
* Experience at a senior engineer level.
* Mentoring graduates and engineers.
* Design of timber, masonry, modular and other types of building structures.
* Producing fee proposals and managing project budgets.
Skills
* Finite element software for structural engineering.
* Design software such as TEDDS, Concrete Centre Spreadsheets.
* Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
* Tekla 3D Building Designer, SCIA, Robot, RAM, ETABS.
* AutoCAD and Revit.
